VEHICLE COSTS

The presently proposed service could be operated with 40 vehicles and the Pullman T.P.L. design has been estimated to be available for £500k provided the equipment specification is not too elaborate.
This would give a total vehicle cost of £20 million. To allow for contingencies, a cost of £25 million is proposed.

Other than passenger-carrying vehicles, there will also be a need for 'works' cars such as maintenance vehicles, snow ploughs, track sweepers and depot shunters. In some systems, all these functions are performed by one or two multi-purpose vehicles but it is more economical to purchase second-hand vehicles cheaply from other systems and adapt them. (The price for an ex-East German four-wheeled passenger tram has recently been quoted as 1 Mark - buyer collects)
